Š. Gilberta un A. S. Salivana operetēs”. Autore pievērsās angļu muzikālajam teātrim, jo šis temats veiksmīgi apvieno viņas ilggadējo aizraušanos ar muzikālo teātri un bakalaura studiju „Starpkultūru sakari: Latvija – Lielbritānija” apakšprogrammas specifiku, kas paredz padziļinātu britu kultūras apguvi. Bakalaura darba pētījuma objekts ir dramaturga V. Š. Gilberta un komponista A. S. Salivana sadarbībā tapušo operešu libreti. No četrpadsmit operetēm autores radošajam pētījumam tika izraudzīti divi darbi: operete „Viņas Majestātes kuģis ‘Priekšautiņš’ jeb meitiņa, kas mīlēja matrozi” (H. M. S. Pinafore or, the Lass that Loved a Sailor, 1878) un operete „Mikado jeb Titipū pilsēta” (The Mikado or, the Town of Titipu, 1885). Pētījumu vēl papildina augstākminēto operešu pārstāsti bērniem, kurus veicis pats libretu autors V. Š. Gilberts: „.‘Priekšautiņa’ bilžu grāmata: Viņas Majestātes kuģa ‘Priekšautiņš’ stāsts” (Pinafore Picture Book: the Story of H. M. S. Pinafore, 1908) un „Mikado stāsts” (The Story of the Mikado, 1921). Operešu izvēli noteica šādi kritēriji: 1) Operešu atzinīgs novērtējums un popularitāte Lielbritānijā un ārzemēs: no viesizrādēm ASV un pirmās starptautiskās atzinības („Viņas Majestātes kuģis ‘Priekšautiņš’ ”) līdz viesizrādēm Eiropā un operešu iestudējumiem svešvalodās („Mikado”); 2) Satīra par vēlīno Viktorijas laikmeta sabiedrību: a) nacionālā kontekstā, izmantojot angļu kultūras elementus (operete „Viņas Majestātes kuģis ‘Priekšautiņš’ ”) un b) eksotiskā kontekstā, atsaucoties uz japāņu kultūras elementiem (operetē „Mikado”). The main objective of the present Bachelor’s Paper is to research how the realia used in W. S. Gilbert and A. S. Sullivan’s operettas reflect the Late Victorian period and society in Britain. In order to achieve this objective, the paper offers an insight into the most relevant aspects of the Late Victorian period and the analysis of the librettos of two operettas: H. M. S. Pinafore or, the Lass That Loved a Sailor (1878) and The Mikado or, the Town of Titipu (1885); and their retellings adapted by W. S. Gilbert into children’s books: The Pinafore Picture Book: the Story of H. M. S. Pinafore (1908) and The Story of the Mikado (1921). The literary analysis of the librettos and their retellings demonstrates that the realia of the Late Victorian British society are present in W. S. Gilbert and A. S. Sullivan’s works, regardless of whether the setting is Victorian England (H. M. S. Pinafore) or exotic Japan (The Mikado). However, they may vary depending on the target audience – the operettas depict and parody the reality the adult Victorians live in, while their retellings depict and parody the reality the Victorian children live in. The Bachelor’s Paper can be regarded as a pioneering work that acquaints the Latvian audience with the contribution of W. S. Gilbert and A. S. Sullivan to the history of the musical theatre. La thèse a pour but d’étudier le reflet des réalités et de la société britannique de la fin de l’époque victorienne dans les opérettes de W. S. Gilbert et A. S. Pour atteindre ce but, le travail donne un aperçu des aspects les plus pertinents de la fin de l’ère victorienne et présente une analyse de librettos de deux opérettes: H. M. S. Pinafore or, the Lass That Loved a Sailor (1878) et The Mikado or, the Town of Titipu (1885); ainsi que de ses adaptations dans les livres pour enfants: The Pinafore Picture Book: the Story of H. M. S. Pinafore (1908) et The Story of the Mikado (1921). L’analyse littéraire des librettos et de ses adaptations montre que les réalités de la société britannique de la fin de l’ère victorienne sont présentes dans les oeuvres de W. S. Gilbert et A. S. Sullivan indépendamment du décor qu’il soit celui de l’Angleterre victorienne (H. M. S. Pinafore) ou du Japon exotique (The Mikado). Cependant, ces réalités peuvent se varier suivant le public cible: les opérettes représentent et parodient la réalité ou vivent les adultes, alors que ses adaptations représentent et parodient la réalité ou vivent les enfants. La thèse peut être considérée comme un travail novateur présentant au public letton W. S. Gilbert et A. S. Sullivan et leur contribution à l’histoire du théâtre musical.
