Abstract (english):
This Master’s thesis, titled “Strategic Communication for Erasmus+ Project Coordination: Promoting Sustainable Multicultural Behaviour among Outgoing Latvian Students,” explores whether Latvian students adopt sustainable multicultural behaviour after their Erasmus+ mobility and whether strategic communication guidelines for environmentally and culturally responsible practices in higher education institutions serve as motivation. The study aims to theoretically examine strategic communication’s role in promoting multicultural and sustainable behaviour, analyse Erasmus+ project coordination at both European and Latvian levels, and assess how well the higher education institutions (HEIs) promote sustainable multicultural behaviour among outgoing Latvian students through Erasmus+ Project Coordination. Based on theoretical and empirical findings, conclusions and suggestions are provided for HEIs to develop strategic communication guidelines that ensure sustainable, multicultural student support and academic outcomes. The research is relevant given the European Commission’s increasing emphasis on sustainability for future generations (European Commission, 2024), making the Erasmus+ mobility and HEIs the key platforms for promoting environmental and cultural awareness. The methodology includes descriptive, comparative, and empirical approaches, including surveys and statistical analysis to test the research hypothesis. The thesis consists of three chapters: the first covers the theoretical background of strategic communication and sustainability in multicultural settings, the second focuses on the Erasmus+ Programme, analysing its context, coordination and challenges in Latvian and European* HEIs; the third investigates HEIs' impact on students’ sustainable behaviours and tests the hypothesis. Findings show that institutional strategic communication guidelines are currently not the main factor motivating students to adopt environmentally sustainable behaviour. The Master's thesis comprises 77 pages, 7 tables, 14 figures, and 26 appendices. The research is based on 94 literature sources. *In this research, “European” refers specifically to COLOURS Alliance universities, not all European HEIs
