veikti 21 mērījumi laikā no 2025. gada jūnijam līdz 2025. gada septembrim.[19] Darbā

The bachelors thesis includes research for seeing how artificial intelligence
algorithms can be used to determine a plants leaf area and how to create an automatic plant
watering advisor. The projects idea is to study an artificial intelligence based information
system which detects the health of a plant.
During the project creation, there was data gathered from 6 plants, all together
combining 196 images with 21 measurements in total spanning from June to September for
the year 2025.[19] The image dataset of the Salix Integra plant used in this work is available
to the author for use in the development of this work thanks to the project "Toward a perfect
sponge - developing theoretical and practical specification for stormwater biofilter (rain
garden) composition maximizing rainwater retention and evapotranspiration" (No. RTU-
PA-2024/1-0066 "TPS") implemented by the Institute of Water Systems and Biotechnology
at Riga Technical University. The images were annotated using the LabelMe tool, including
the use of the AI mask drawer.
The two described approaches in the thesis: initial object recognition with bounding
boxes and the final plant leaf area segmentation with YOLOv11n-seg model. This change of
approach allowed to reduce leaf occlusion and concentrate on leaf projected area change
during a time period.
The watering advisor is based on the relative growth rate (RGR) calculation, the
plants individual baseline history comparison and watering logs. The system does not take
the responsibility of an automatic watering lead, but It gives an early warning for potential
growth slowing or drought stress.
A Streamlit app was developed, providing functions like image uploading, leaf area
measurement, measurement history, plant management, irrigation tracking/registering and
data correction option.
