- Mežotne ir sena un slavena apdzīvota vieta 10 km uz rietumiem no Bauskas. Tā sākusi veidoties Lielupes kreisajā krastā. Lielupe - Zemgales lielākā upe (garums 119 km, sākas pie Bauskas, satekot Mūsai un Mēmelei, ietek jūrā starp Rīgu un Jūrmalu) veido Mežotnes pagasta rietumu robežu. Līdz Mežotnei Lielupe, iegrauzusies dolomītos, tek pa senleju; starp Bausku un Mežotni sākas upes straujākais posms, lejpus Mežotnes ieleja paplašinās, upes straume kļūst nemanāma
