- Iela ierīkota 1900. gadā, nosaukta par Alberta ielu bīskapa Alberta piemiņai. Ielu ierīkoja bijušās F.V. Tīmes dārzniecības teritorijā. Padomju okupācijas laikā iela bija pārdēvēta komjaunieša Friča Gaiļa vārdā, vācu okupācijas laikā Hartknochstrasse, no 1942. gada - Hollanderstrasse. Savulaik atšķirīgi, no arhitektoniskā viedokļa pat negatīvi vērtēto Alberta ielas apbūvi mūsdienās dēvē par Rīgas jūgendstila pērli
