Folkloras ansambļa Iļģi aranžētu tautasdziesmu pavadījumā uz ekrāna virknējas dažādas arhetipiski rituālas darbības un jēdzieni – uguns kuršana, maizes cepšana, govs slaukšana, arājs ar arklu tīrumā un mazs bērns baltā palagā, zīlēšana un buramvārdi. Kulminācija – etnogrāfiski tradicionāla jaunavas iziešana pie vīra, ietverot iecerētās līgavas zagšanu un brāļu pakaļdzīšanos.

„Revolucionāra" filma vismaz divu iemeslu dēļ. Pirmkārt, vizuāli tā veidota maksimāli nosacītā un absolūti gleznieciskā stilistikā, kas drosmīgi kontrastē ar padomju mākslā vispārpieņemto „sociālistisko reālismu" un naturālismu. Otrkārt, tā ir politiska uzdrīkstēšanās – līdz Atmodai vēl vairāki tumši gadi, taču šajā filmā jau plīvo Lielvārdes josta ar latviskiem ornamentiem un pirmoreiz tik koncentrēti nolasāms skaidri nacionāls vēstījums.

Oh, My Dear Little Sister was politically daring; although at the time of its making there were still a few dark years before the national awakening, in the film the Lielvārde belt is depicted complete with Latvian ornaments, and for the first time the viewer could read a clear national message.

In this film, folk songs arranged by the folklore ensemble Iļģi accompany a succession of various archetypal rituals and concepts: lighting a fire, baking bread, milking a cow, ploughing a field, a baby swaddled in a white sheet, soothsaying and spells. The culmination – an ethnographically traditional wedding – includes the stealing of the intended bride and her brother's chasing after her.

This was a "revolutionary" film for at least two reasons. Firstly, it was visually composed in an undefined and purely pictorial style that boldly contrasted with the generally accepted "socialist realism" of Soviet art and naturalism. Secondly, Oh, My Dear Little Sister was politically daring; although at the time of its making there were still a few dark years before the national awakening, in the film the Lielvārde belt is depicted complete with Latvian ornaments, and for the first time the viewer could read a clear national message.
