Abstract (latvian):
Abstract (english):
Thesis title: On the creation of an information system based on stochastic optimization algorithms of economic theory Thesis author: Toms Millers Thesis supervisor: Dr. Phys. Sergejs Hiļķevičs Thesis scope: 50 pp., 5 tables, 14 figures, 23 bibliographic references, 2 appendices. Keywords: information system, stochastics, optimization, economics, financial time series, algorithms, stocks, portfolio, portfolio optimization, minimization of risk The bachelor thesis examines stochastic optimization algorithms applied to financial markets for the construction of investment portfolios. The work explores the fundamental principles of optimization problems — from unconstrained optimization to stochastic optimization involving random variables. The theoretical part analyzes fundamental and technical analysis methods, corporate valuation models (Graham, Altman, Ohlson, Gordon–Shapiro), as well as the foundations of investment portfolio theory, including Markowitz portfolio theory and alternative risk measures. The practical part presents a web-based information system that implements stock screening, portfolio optimization, and walk-forward backtes- ting procedures using US stock market data (5000 instruments, period 2009–2024). The system integrates two alternative risk measures — Hilkevics’ S/V approach and Markowitz standard deviation — and is publicly available at https://econmodels.venta.lv. The thesis is intended for computer science and financial mathematics students, lecturers, and specialists interested in the practical implementation of investment portfolio optimization in a web environment.
