inscenējošā režija tiecas sabalansēti, atkarībā no izrādes mērķa izmantot visus skatuviskos
Abstract (english):
Daile Theatre founded in 1920 has been consistently implementing a style contrary to
the dominant naturalistic tradition. Daile Theatre becomes the first to implement and
experiment on progressive contemporary ideas of theatrical production in Latvia lead by
the director of Daile Theatre Eduards Smilgis through implementation of a certain
programme of artistic discipline declared during the first season of Daile Theatre. The main
guideline of declaration influencing scenography of Daile Theatre in the interwar period is
to create an intermedia type of theatre organically combining all elements of the stage –
visual, auditory, motion, and rhythm. Artistic activity of Daile Theatre in the interwar
period may be divided in 3 stages: 1920 – 1926 characterized by creative work of Janis
Muncis, stage art and stage painting consultant, 1926 – 1934 – creative work of Oto
Skulme, creator of scenic space, in scenography and 1934 – 1940 marked by changes to the
management of Daile Theatre. Master’s thesis looks at the first two stages of artistic
activity of Daile Theatre.
The thesis is composed of 2 main chapters. Chapter 1 – Evolution of Scenographic
Ideas in Daile Theatre 1920 – 1926 and chapter 2 – Scenography of Daile Theatre 1926 –
1934 with several subchapters. The aim of the thesis is to find out influences and
tendencies of the development of scenographic ideas through analysis and comparison.
From 1920 to 1934 scenographic development of Daile Theatre is influenced by
personality aspects of the main stage designers and a set of artistic means of expression,
cinema and rivalry with other theatres as well as global economic crisis of the 1930s. The
influence of Daile Theatre on the Latvian theatrical stage is left through upgrades to stage
construction, lighting system and its application and decorative solutions.
